{K}atie & {J}ason ~ Corvallis, Oregon Engagement Session

I had a meeting tonight with some clients whose wedding I’ll be shooting next month.  It was so great to see them again…neatest people…salt of the earth. really.

I got to snap a few more pictures of them before we sat down to discuss wedding details.  Aren’t they adorable?  Katie and Jason have made a commitment not to have any physical contact (besides hugs) – even kissing – until after they are married!  How cool is that?  You just don’t hear that very often now-a-days!  I have the utmost respect for them and love that their beautiful spiritual connection comes through in these pictures.

Today

Your genuine action will explain itself, and will explain your other genuine actions. Your conformity explains nothing. The force of character is cumulative. – Ralph Waldo Emerson, Self-Reliance

If ‘the voyage of the best ship is a zigzag line of a hundred tacks,’ then it is more genuine to be present today than to recount yesterdays. How would you describe today using only one sentence? Tell today’s sentence to one other person. Repeat each day.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

Watching the children frolic freely through the nature garden, I breathed in their energy and stopped: to listen, to feel, to smell and to be present in the moment unfolding around me – how often I struggle to remember just to be present and to slow down and smell the roses.

15 minutes

We are afraid of truth, afraid of fortune, afraid of death, and afraid of each other. Our age yields no great and perfect persons. – Ralph Waldo Emerson

You just discovered you have fifteen minutes to live.

1. Set a timer for fifteen minutes.
2. Write the story that has to be written.

———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

What is the story that has to be written?

I have 15 minutes left on this earth and all that is going through my mind are snapshots of all the amazing people I have loved along the way.  This journey has been difficult, hilarious, heartbreaking, joyful, beautiful and when all is said and done; too short!

At 32 years old, I have my whole life ahead of me, more importantly, I have my children’s lives ahead of me!  My beautiful children.  I keep seeing photos of them – their perfect bodies…fingers, toes, mouths, ears, eyes, legs…and thinking of how each of them smells.  We all have our own smell, don’t we?  I hope in Heaven our spirits are able to smell…or do something infinitely more amazing with the same familiar results.  My memories are tied to smell.  Probably the reason food is such a huge issue for me.  I think of food for happy, sad, frustrating, annoying, etc – every situation!

Back to my babies.  What they need to know (in 8 minutes):

Say you’re sorry.  Love unconditionally.  Don’t be afraid.  Go on a mission.  Serve abundantely.  Sing – even if you don’t know the words.  Give of yourself – time and talents.  Be a hero to someone.  Get an education.  Say your prayers.  Talk to your family members – don’t hold back.  Always be honest.  Work hard for everything you want.  Don’t be afraid to fail – you will.  Be resilient.  Exercise.  Love food, the right way.  Pay your tithing.  Drive the speed limit.  Be obedient.  Follow the Word of Wisdom.  Be clean.  Be a parent.  Hug others – A LOT.  Brush your teeth and see your dentist.  Go to the doctor – even if you think it’s nothing.  Write thank-you notes.  Be extraordinary.  Be YOU.  BE.

To my wonderful husband who has had to endure 11+ years with me…I owe you one (but you’re not getting it ’til I see you on the other side)!  Be happy!  Love others and be loved in return.  Stay strong and work hard.  I love you so much, my handsome one.

Most of us will never know when the countdown to our last 15 minutes will begin – so take time to think about the important things…and then LIVE them.  Make journals, write cards, play with your babies – TAKE PICTURES!

The clock’s ticking

Fine Arts Night

Our healthy (minus Mr. Charming’s back) week started out great…until Tuesday night.  Avonleigh woke up in the middle of the night with a high fever and nausea…followed quickly by vomiting.  Poor kid.  It seems to hit her hard.  So she stayed home from school yesterday and toady.  Christopher decided to join the fun by puking up his breakfast this morning.  He was fine the rest of the day, so I’m hoping he just ate too much, too fast (fingers crossed)!

Anyway, tonight was the older kids’ school Fine Arts Night and the only one who made it was Laethym.  Chris took she and Payton and Zeke.  He said it was great!  I was sad to miss it, so I had to snap a few shots of my little lady before she headed out the door.

I love this girl!

I loved them so much, I had to play around with some black and whites…

Change is good…and a GIVEAWAY!

I had visions of grandeur…posting several times a week, highlighting some new features, sharing more about my crazy life…
But apparently, I haven’t figured out how to fit blogging into my schedule (or lack there-of)!
I annoy myself!
But I’m not giving up – so don’t give up on me!  Things are still moving forward!
We spent this last week having all 5 kids contract some nasty flu bug and puke their guts out (along with fevers, headache and diarrhea).  It has been a very long and STINKY week!  We still had Zeke vomiting last night, and 2 girls with stomach cramps, so I took Christopher and Payton to church while Chris stayed home with the sickies.
And to top it all off, Friday night was our 11th wedding anniversary (yes, William and Kate have superb taste)!  I was supposed to take the kids to an auction at their school while Chris had an Elder’s Quorum activity at the church.  But instead, I stayed home (and cleaned up mass amounts of vomit – that’s gotta be worth some brownies points, right??) while he went to his activity.  At one point, poor little Payton walked into the kitchen and threw up all over the floor, then slipped in it, and smacked her chin on the garbage can on the way down!  It was truly pathetic.
But there were a couple of bright silver linings…my wonderful friends who stepped in to help in all the chaos!  I have incredible friends!  Michelle is always checking in on us – and she’s an amazing cook!  She brought us popsicles (life saver) early in the week, and then chicken and wild rice soup with bread for dinner one night.  I love her lots!  And dear, wonderful Katie has been shuffling my healthy (for the moment) kids around all week to and from school and brought us a tuna noodle casserole with sauteed carrots for dinner!  Wonderful friends indeed!
So…here’s to a brighter week ahead, right?!
And since we’re looking ahead to good things…I’m super-excited to share with you, my friends, my BRAND. NEW. WEBSITE!
Drum roll please….
Webiste
I’m also going to be switching over to a new blog…
Blog
I’m excited to share all of the beautiful sessions that have taken place recently!
I will be changing things up and having a more concrete format for my new blog, but for now, I have imported this blog into the new one, so nothing is lost, and everything is still the same!
I will leave this blog active, but I haven’t decided if I will update it with personal/family stuff and save the other just for business or if I’ll roll it all into the new one.
What do you think?  If you’re visiting a photography blog, do you want to see the photographer’s family or are you specifically looking for their client work?  I’d love to know!
And, in honor of new changes (and things to come) AND Mother’s Day, I’m having my very first giveaway…I KNOW!!  I’m so excited!
